Private Farm Setting With Many Interests
Our large solid brick farm house (circa 1879) is located in a private setting .5 km (1/4 mi) from the road. It has been updated to include modern conveniences while maintaining its original character. We have two bathrooms and three available bedrooms, as well as two ensuites. Since we are classified as a B&B, rather than an Inn, we can only rent three rooms per night.
Our farm has 245 interesting acres with fields, woods, drumlin hill, wet lands, wildlife sanctuary and stocked ponds. There are 3 km (2 mi) of roadways for walking, jogging, riding, cycling and skiing. Farm animals include sheep, goats, bees, ducks, chickens, rabbits, peacocks, cats, pot belly pigs, two black swans, a dog, and a horse. We grow farm crops, Christmas trees, gardens, and wild plants. Wild animals include deer, beaver, porcupine, muskrat, raccoon, waterfowl and song birds.
You can sit in our sunroom or on our large verandahs and watch birds and animals in the fields and ponds. Our hill is quite picturesque and gives a wonderful view of the country side.
You can walk on good paths around the ponds or through the maple woods, Christmas trees and wildlife sanctuary, which consists of about 100 acres with 60 acres of water. There are nesting boxes for wrens, swallows, martins, blue birds, and wood ducks. A large number of wild ducks and geese are produced each year in the wet lands and the young geese pasture around the ponds by the house.
Ponds near the house have an island and foot bridges. There are nesting boxes for wrens, swallows, martins, blue birds and wood ducks.
The Hunter Farm is located east of the city of Peterborough. Go 8 km (5 mi) east on highway 7. Turn north onto highway 134 and go 2 km (1.5 mi), across the railroad tracks, to the Bed & Breakfast sign and laneway on your left.
Nearby are located the historic Serpent Mounds, Indian Petroglyphs, Lang Century Village, Hope Water Powered Saw Mill and Towns General Store. Also close by are Whetung Ojibwa Crafts, Warsaw Caves, Millbrook 4th Line Outdoor Theatre, tea rooms, antique shops, craft shops, swimming, boating and canoeing.
Year round accommodation with a hearty country breakfast.
