| Property Description: |
The elegance of the Edwardian years resonate in this superb home, constructed over a century ago. Purchased by the University of Toronto in the 1920's, it served as the facility where Dr. Frederick Banting, Dr. Best and their associates initiated research leading to the discovery of insulin.
Purchased by its current owners in 1997, it has enjoyed a meticulous restoration. From the gracious entrance hall, with its 3 storey climbing oak staircase, century old stained glass and lead crystal windows, to the antiques and original art in every room, the ambiance is that of a more tranquil era.
We offer 9 guest rooms with air conditioning, cable TV and an alarm clock radio. Several of our rooms have separate entertainment areas and private entrances.
Breakfast may start at 8:00 for our guests, but for us it starts much earlier. That's because we're up early getting ready to serve eggs as you like them, homefries, pancakes and french toast.
If it's a lighter fare you're looking for, there's also an assortment of fresh fruit, cereals and yogurts.
Or, simply relax, and linger over the morning paper with your choice of coffee, tea or juice.
If you need your breakfast earlier, or, have special dietary request, please just let us know and we'll try our very best to accomodate.
Banting House is uniquely situated to provide for all tastes.
While located on a quiet residential street, the property is still in the heart of the city. Relax in the privacy of a lush, secluded garden, or take a few steps to experience Toronto's best theatres, shops, restaurants and clubs.
"It was amazing, I was in the heart of downtown Toronto, yet, when relaxing in the gardens ... the city seemed miles away."
